We’re three mothers from three faiths—Islam, Christianity, and Judaism—who got together to write a picture book for our children that would highlight the connections between our religions. But no sooner had we started talking about our beliefs and how to explain them to our children than our differences led to misunderstandings. Our project nearly fell apart. Inspired by a story about Muhammad, Ranya reached out to two other mothers—a Christian and a Jew—to try to understand and answer these questions for her children. After just a few meetings, however, it became clear that the women themselves needed an honest and open environment where they could admit—and discuss—their concerns, stereotypes, and misunderstandings about one another. After hours of soul-searching about the issues that divided them, Ranya, Suzanne, and Priscilla grew close enough to discover and explore what united them.
Through the last year of the war the unwavering pilots who flew these two mighty aircraft became the scourge of the German Army, blasting their way through armoured formations, destroying airfields, shipping, barges, bridges, trains, marshalling yards, rail hubs, anything to support the advancing British and Canadian armies as they battled their way through Belgium and the Netherlands towards the Rhine.
Having just destroyed two Dornier Do18 flying boats on the water, he now helps finish off a Bf and a Fw that have tried to pounce from above. It was probably the most versatile aircraft of World War Two and the missions undertaken by the Mosquito and her crews have rarely been equalled for their daring or precision.

It was the latest in a long line of New England ranger companies dating back to the s. The immediate precursor and model for the unit was Gorham’s Rangers , formed in Both were initially organized by William Shirley. Gorham’s Rangers are always depicted as precursors of Rogers’ Rangers; however, they were also active throughout the French and Indian War, which makes them contemporaries of Rogers’ Rangers. In fact, the Nova Scotia ranger corps that Gorham’s company belonged to operated in cooperation with units of Rogers’ corps on several occasions, most notably when Moses Hazen’s company joined Rogers’ Rangers at the Siege of Louisburg in and the Siege of Quebec in The unit was formed during the winter of from forces stationed at Fort William Henry.
The Rangers sometimes undertook raids against French towns and military emplacements, traveling on foot, in whaleboats, and even on snowshoes during winter. Israel Putnam who would go on to later fame in the Revolutionary War fought as a Connecticut militia captain in conjunction with Rogers, and at one point saved his life. By early , the rangers had been expanded to a corps of fourteen companies composed of between 1, and 1, men. Rogers was then promoted to major and served as commandant of the Ranger Corps.
What’s your vision on life? What are your goals? What is your family like? I came into this world on November 3rd in Baltimore, Maryland. I guess if I had to reduce the ever growing list of attributes learned from my parents to only two characteristics that, if not for them I would never posses, it would be confidence and work ethic.

It is just part of the territory that goes with loving one who has served. Even if there is no substance abuse, emotional or physical abuse, or noticeable depression, there can be the emotional distancing that has to be patiently overcome and if need be, treated with therapy. Those who suffer from PTSD may also, in their darker moments, inflict it upon those loved ones around them. Millions of Veterans and service people live with some effects of PTSD, many for the rest of their lives.
If you understand what it does to people, are patient and care enough, it can be managed and life can be good. The more macho special units, or people, suffer every bit as much from PTSD as the general service population, but are less inclined to acknowlege issues or seek help, thinking it a sign of weakness. The onset of PTSD may show up weeks, months or years after the causal factor.
However, it has also evolved into a soulful, musical “sing-song” version that is fun to sing and march to, as well as more elaborate “jodies” which are generally shouted or sung in a call-and-response fashion. Wikipedia’s Military Cadence page has more information and history. Cadences Make You Run Better? Of course this is not the case:

The armored cargo-carrying variant of the parachute-airdroppable, amphibious, helicopter-transportable M Gavin The XM has a stretched hull distinguishable by its 6 road-wheels common to the mobile tactical vehicle light MTVL upgrade but behind the armored cab its a cut-down flat bed for cargo. Another option would be for Light Mech Sappers Combat Engineers to pitch in and help clear the drop zone of supply bundles by their M Gavins with bulldozer blades fitted with Butch Walker’s “BucketLift” attachment.
Fold-down or detachable side walls at the cargo area with a sacrificial face to pre-detonate RPGs would protect the cargo on AA-RRVs from destruction during transport.
His version of Airborne Ranger was close to the one Rap posted in the Airborne Ranger thread. We ran past officer’s housing. We ran past officer’s housing. Eventually, someone complained and we wound up singing ‘bleep’ a lot.
But, unlikely unless you have a great command team, who can focus on more than just the mainstream tasks of preparedness, understands the schools system, and timing is essential. I have seen comments about funding and slots, but really what is more influential than all of those is whether someone in your unit has the knowledge, time, and connections to make these items a priority.
It has been my experience that most Reserve Units do not have those assets and, therefore, they don’t see the schools allocations that Soldiers would like. I was a Schools NCO on active duty and worked with many reserve and NG units to help them get the slots they wanted and was fairly successful due to my time as an Air Assault Instructor and my knowledge of the schools system and how to get MTTs to come to them which is one of the best ways to get a lot of slots. Unfortunately, it has been a few years, so my connections are worthless at this point, but my advice is to reach out to the schools and ask them directly.
Many of the admin NCOs will give you guidance on the best route to go to get slots. They may not answer email or even tell you over the phone if they don’t know you, so use your networking skills to find someone on the inside that can help. Make sure you let them know that you are not trying to circumvent the system, but that you are looking for information on who to effectively use the system.
Who needs to submit what to whom in what format within what time frame? Will you help me? How bad do you want it?

Upon arrival on 10 May , shortly before the end of the campaign in North Africa , which ended with the surrender of almost , Axis prisoners of war POWs , the paratroops marched eight miles south of the city where they established a cantonment area consisting of a few stone huts and a tent city.

Despite extensive precautions to avoid an incident, near the Sicilian coast a nervous Allied naval vessel suddenly fired upon the formation. Immediately, all other naval vessels and shore troops joined in, downing friendly aircraft and forcing planeloads of paratroopers to exit far from their intended drop zones in one of the greatest friendly fire tragedies of World War II.
Navy ships had been under intense Axis aerial attacks, and many were unaware of the impending jump. Twenty-three planes were destroyed, thirty-seven were damaged, and almost casualties were confirmed. The others had been dropped in isolated groups on all parts of the island and carried out demolitions, cut lines of communication , established island roadblocks, ambushed German and Italian motorized columns, and caused so much confusion over such an extensive area that initial German radio reports estimated the number of American parachutists dropped to be over ten times the actual number.
With captured Italian light tanks, trucks, motorcycles, horses, mules, bicycles, and even wheelbarrows pressed into service, the 82nd encountered only light resistance and took 22, POWs in their first contact with enemy forces. Overall, the Sicilian operation proved costly, both in lives and equipment, but the regiment gained valuable fighting experience and managed to hurt the enemy in the process.
Reply Link Joie November 26, , It kinda makes me feel good to know that there are hundreds of girls that can relate and rely on each other for support with this common struggle. Haha, though we barely talked, I would often bother him in class, poking him and calling his name while he was dozing off. My tenth grade year, I switched schools and started my life anew, losing contact with most everybody from my old school, including my soldier. Have they “earned” it already? Well, how about it, Ranger snob? Army Soldiers all along beginning with combat arms, and to keep BLACK for Army Rangers many whom are infuriated bezerkoid that their sole ownership of the black color was taken away. Esperit de Corps is not reserved for just a few units to look good at the expense of everyone else, ALL Soldiers and units have their own colored distinctive beret and personalities that fits their mission profiles.
He asks, “Why not the same ethos here in the U. Now the fun begins! Army-wide Black Beret being worn: Self-image is not a trivial matter, and the military snobs who want to have the majority of the Army’s Soldiers walk around defeated and dejected just so they can feel superior know it. Its time we assault this BS mindset and stick a bayonet through it. The experiences of the Airborne with the maroon, the rangers with the black and special forces with their green beret showed the same truths; issuing them the garrison cap that was never worn and discarded was and still is a waste of money when they have better headgear in their berets.
What a bunch of milicrat bean-counter, penny-wise, pound foolish bullshit; any excuse to deny progress and maintain the status quo! And when a suggestion comes from someone who is not a general officer with the power to demote or promote the bureaucrat it must be shot down; lest the Soldiers who own the Army start acting like the professionals with a stake in the organization their lives are not good enough?
